NMC to highlight Credit for Prior Learning at info session
The Northern Marianas College will be highlighting its new Credit for Prior Learning Program at next week’s Jan. 8, 2015, Info Session. Anyone interested in learning more about this program is invited to attend.
Credit for Prior Learning is a way that college credit is awarded for knowledge gained through training, employment, and life-experiences, as self-assessed and documented in a portfolio.
The portfolio will be developed in the Prior Learning Assessment Portfolio Development course (BE200), which is a 3-credit course being offered this spring semester at NMC. The course will help students develop a portfolio that includes a written analysis of what they learned and how they applied this knowledge in the workplace at a level that merits college credit consideration.
The Portfolio Development course is a requirement in the Credit for Prior Learning process and will examine written narratives, verifiable documents, certificates of training, certifications and licenses, proficiency exams, college transcripts, and military and professional training. Other verifiable evidence of knowledge may be considered.
The Info Session will also feature topics such as the college’s new bachelor’s degree in Business Management, benefits of a higher education, financial aid opportunities, and other initiatives.
The information session, which is open to all prospective students and community members, will be on Thursday, Jan. 8, 2015, from 5pm to 6pm in Room D-1 at the college’s As Terlaje campus.
