NMC and Framingham launch the 11th cohort program

Framingham State University and Northern Marianas College have joined forces again to train a new cohort of students who will be working toward their master’s degree in education.
The graduate program, which culminates in a degree conferred by the Framingham State University, presents a unique opportunity for students living and working in the CNMI to advance both academically and professionally.

Many of the graduates of the cohort program are now employed by the CNMI Public School System as teachers, principals, and administrators.

The classes for the program are scheduled in a way that recognizes that many of the students hold full time jobs and are balancing many obligations. As such, the courses are provided in a condensed but convenient format supported by prior readings, and culminate in a final project. The instructional content of the classes are delivered through both online formats as well an in-class sessions, which are led by Framingham professors who travel to the CNMI to meet personally with the cohort participants.

Since the start of the collaborative effort between the college and Framingham State University, 177 individuals—employed by the CNMI Public School System, Northern Marianas College, private schools and other organizations—have completed the program. The graduation of the current cohort of students will raise the number of graduates obtaining a master’s degree from Framingham State University past 200.

The Northern Marianas College offers several degree and certificate programs, including a bachelor of science degree in education (emphasis on elementary education, early childhood education, special education, or rehabilitation and human services), associate degrees in business, business administration (emphasis on accounting, business management, or computer applications), liberal arts, nursing, natural resources management, criminal justice, and hospitality management. Moreover, it offers short-term certificate programs in different vocational, academic, and professional areas.
