NMC eyes hosting regional education conference
The Northern Marianas College is in talks with the Public School System to submit a joint proposal to host the 2016 Pacific Circle Conference, according to college president Dr. Sharon Hart in her report to the Board of Regents last week.
Next year’s 2015 conference is being held in Fiji at the University of South Pacific, according to PCC’s website. PCC describes themselves as “an initiative in international co-operation between educational research and development institutions” in the Pacific.
Its members come from all over the Pacific and to Asia. They focus on working together to producing curriculum materials, as well as honing in on issues of policy development and educational research, according to PCC.
The yearly conference is where joint projects are discussed and reported upon and a range of papers and symposia are presented, according to their website. PCC was established in 1977.
“PSS and we have been talking about submitting—before the end of the year—a joint proposal to host the 2016 Pacific Circle Conference,” Hart said.
She added that the conference is focused around K-12 grades, as well as higher education. It has never been held in Micronesia, according to her.
