NMC Alumni Association reestablished

The Northern Marianas College reestablished its alumni association last Jan. 13 when graduates of the CNMI’s lone college met to elect a fresh set of officers.
NMC president Dr. Carmen Fernandez said at the meeting that the alumni association, officially called Northern Marianas College Alumni Association, was one of her main priorities.
“The organization plays a very important function in the overall mission of the college, and we are glad that plans are underway for a number of activities that will engage our graduates both on island and those who are living in other parts of the world,” Fernandez said.
The NMCAA has been dormant since 2009.
The meeting was called to allow members of the association to elect officials: Jack Kiyoshi as NMCAA president, Jesse Deleon Guerrero as vice president, Timberly Ngewakl as treasurer, and Christina Cruz as secretary.
Kiyoshi said he is excited to work with the new officers and others who are committed to rebuild the alumni association.
“We will be organizing our first social event, which will be held in February,” Kiyoshi said.
He plans to add perks for being a member of the reestablished NMCAA, such as discounts and special offers exclusive to NMC alumnus.
Kiyoshi also wants to create a membership card for NMC alumni that would allow them to benefit from discounts and special offers from business establishments on the island.
Kiyoshi encouraged all NMC graduates or those who have earned at least 24 NMC credits to join the association.
NMCAA is an association established in 2008 and is made up of both alumnus of the college and students that have earned at least 24 units in the college.
