The Northern Marianas College recently received national recognition for its outreach activities undertaken by the institution’s marketing office.

The recognition, awarded for 2019, came from the District Six region of the National Council for Marketing & Public Relations, which represents marketing and public relations professionals at community and technical colleges. The organization has more than 1,700 members from nearly 650 colleges across the United States and Canada.

District 6 includes Arizona, California, Hawaii, Nevada, the CNMI, FSM, Palau, Marshall Islands, and Guam.

NMC bested other colleges to win the 2019 Medallion Awards for gold and silver in the video shorts category. Since 2015, the college has received awards for its video and graphic designs.

The Medallion Awards recognizes outstanding achievement in design and communication from its current members in the organization. The regional competition is exclusive to two-year colleges and evaluates a variety of products such as videos, social media, posters, postcards, print advertisements, website design, and many more.

“This is a big deal for the college,” said Frankie Eliptico, interim NMC president. “We are up against many institutions who have more resources than us, and the fact that NMC came out on top in this category is a big honor.”

The medallion awards were presented at an annual District Six conference in Utah. However, representatives from NMC were unable to attend in person.

The college’s Office of Institutional Advancement leads all marketing and communications efforts for the college. The mission of OIA is to implement a strategic and integral communications effort that is committed to helping to Northern Marianas College as the premier provider of higher education and training opportunities in the Pacific.
