The Dee Clayton Classic and Northern Marianas Bodybuilding and Physique Federation, or NMBPF, had an exciting 2022 after its announcement of getting bodybuilding into the 2023 Honoria Pacific Games program.
After their great turnout of 21 competitors in last November’s first bodybuilding qualifying competition, Dee Clayton, president of the DC Classic and the NMBPF rated the year a perfect 10 out of 10.
“The year 2022 was an exciting year for bodybuilding and we look forward to another exciting year to come. We are now working on eventually finalizing a bodybuilding team to represent the NMI in the 2023 Pacific Games,” said Clayton.
The highlight of the year, she said, was when it was announced that bodybuilding is in the program of the Pacific Games and that the DC Classic competition held last November was the first qualifier to scout for competitors to join the NMI national bodybuilding team.
She added that the athletes in the competitions are always a big highlight as well. “I’ve always admired, for the past 11 years of competition, the athletes and the support of the audience.”
As for the upcoming Pacific Games, she said “We were invited by the Northern Marianas Sports Association for bodybuilding to be part of the 2023 Pacific Games program and we were very excited. I’ve heard that there’s a lot of people that will join the competition.”
Clayton is looking at tentatively getting eight males and six females into the bodybuilding team and that they already have at least four official coaches who have volunteered to coach for the upcoming Games.
She said that besides the 2023 Pacific Games, she is also looking forward to the last bodybuilding qualifying competition for those who want to compete for fun and for those who want to try to make the cut for the national team.
June 10, 2023 is the set date for the next Dee Clayton Classic and Northern Marianas Bodybuilding and Physique Federation.
More details about the upcoming competition is to follow in the next issues of Saipan Tribune.
