The Northern Marianas Athletics is proud to announce the staging of the 36th Annual Christmas Island Relay this Saturday.

The 13.7-mile race from Pacific Islands Club in San Antonio to the Last Command Post in Marpi is open to running enthusiasts, who may compete in the solo or team event in open and youth divisions. Last year, Agape Christian School swept the team events with ACS 1 winning the open division race after clocking in at 1:27:42 and ACS 3 topping the youth category with a time of 1:34:25.

Interested teams must have five members to compete in this weekend’s race. Each squad racing in the open mixed division should have a runner who is 16 years old or younger, a female, or 40 years old or older. Each member will alternately run one mile of the course and entry fees are $5 per runner or $25 per team.

In the youth mixed division (U16 age group), a team should have at least one female or U12 runner. The same registration fees apply, while for solo runners, entry fees are $10.

Meanwhile, NMA will be awarding prizes to the team with the “Best Christmas Spirit Attire” and “Best Support Vehicle.”

The 36th Annual Christmas Island Relay is just one of the many activities and events that NMA hosts in its continued efforts to promote national physical fitness, health and wellness and fight obesity, diabetes, heart disease, and many other medical conditions that plague the people of the CNMI. NMA will host this event in the spirit of good tidings and goodwill with a hearty breakfast as a way to reach out and thank the many people who have participated in the association’s competitions.
