Niramai Koebel won her very first monthly tournament of the CNMI Women’s Golf Association after winning the February plum last Saturday, Feb. 11, at the east course of the Laolao Bay Golf & Resort.
The 48-year-old Thailand native finished with a net score of 74 after shooting a 38 in the front nine and a 46 in the back nine for a gross score of 84, which after her 10 handicap, gave her the score to beat last weekend.
Koebel, who picked up the sport 15 years ago, said everything was working splendidly for her last Saturday as both her long game and putting were clicking. She also said Mother Nature cooperated well as the “weather was not so windy and not so hot.”
As for who she’s dedicating the monthly championship to, she said, “I’m dedicating it to myself because I’ve been practicing golf very hard for a month.”
Sherlyn Jones came in second, one shot off Koebel’s total at net 75. The 12-handicapper came away with a gross of 87 after going 40-47 in the first nine and last nine holes.
Completing the Top 3 for February was Yuko Togawa after she carded a 76. The 5-handicapper fired a 39 in the front nine and a 42 in the back nine for a gross of 81.
A total of 11 CWGA members took part in the February tournament.
