Nick Sablan dominates SGA May Ace

Nick Sablan was on target during the Saipan Golfers Association’s May Ace of the Month held last month at the Laolao Bay Golf & Resort.

On top of clinching the May Ace of the Month title, Sablan also won three closest to the pin contests and had one longest drive.

The 5-handicapper shot a 36 and 39 on the front and back nines for a gross 75 and net 70. He won the May Ace award by three strokes, as runner-up Steve Balakrishna came up with a net 73. Balakrishna, which owned an 8 handicap. had a gross 81, built around his 43 on the front nine and 38 on the back. CNMI Attorney General Ed Manibusan, who also had a 5 handicap, finished third with his net 74 and gross 79 (40 and 39).

In the closest to the pin competitions in par-3 holes, Sablan won on No. 4, 6, and 15, while Manibusan foiled the former’s bid for a sweep, prevailing on hole No. 11. Sablan also had the longest drive on No. 18, while Rick Kautz duplicated the feat on No. 7.

Meanwhile, SGA will have its June Ace of the Month this Sunday at the Kingfisher Golf Links. Show time is at 8:30am, while tee off is an hour later.
