Gov. Ralph DLG Torres and Lt. Gov. Victor Hocog on Tuesday declared the week of Jan. 31 to Feb. 6 as “Catholic Schools Week” during a signing event at Mount Carmel School.

“We urged the students, parents, staff, faculty, alumni, and volunteers of Catholic schools to participate in observance of this week in appropriate ways that will help instill awareness and appreciation of the values that Catholic education cultivates in our children, which enhance the quality of life for all our people,” Torres and Hocog said in their proclamation.

The proclamation acknowledges the schools, Sister Remedious Early Childhood Development Center and Mount Carmel School on Saipan, and Eskuelan San Francisco de Borja on Rota, for providing intellectual, spiritual, and moral development to a diverse group of students in making sure they reach their “God-given potential.”

Sister Remedios was first established as Our Lady of Mercy Kindergarten in 1951. MCS was established a year later in 1952. In 1985, a Catholic Education Office was established on Saipan. In 1989, the catholic school on Rota was established.
