Kagman schools set PTSA meeting
This is to inform all parents, guardians, and the community that the Kagman Unified Schools will be having a Parents Teachers Students Association meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2019, at 5:30pm in the Chacha Ocean View Middle School cafeteria. We are encouraging all parents, and guardians to attend this meeting. Child care will be provided. Golf tournament fundraiser for JKPL
The 4th Annual Friends of the Joeten-Kiyu Public Library Golf Tournament Fundraiser is happening on Sunday, Nov. 10, at Laolao Bay Golf & Resort’s west course. Game format is Low Gross and Double Peoria, 2-Person Scramble (Men and Women). Cost to participate is $200 entry per team. All proceeds will help support the Joeten-Kiyu Public Library and its resource and collection development, circulation materials, and library programs. Last day to register is Thursday, Nov. 7, at 5pm. (PR)

IRS relief for farmers and ranchers affected by drought
The Internal Revenue Service has extended tax relief for farmers and ranchers who were forced to sell livestock due to drought, flooding, or other severe weather in recent years. Farmers and ranchers in Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands are eligible for federal assistance. A list of all eligible areas in 32 states, Guam, the U.S. Virgin Islands, the Commonwealths of Puerto Rico and the Northern Mariana Islands, can be found in Notice 2019-54 Extension of Replacement Period for Livestock Sold on Account of Drought, available on IRS.gov. Third writers’ workshop set
Plan your novel with us. The third Marianas Writers’ Movement workshop is on Saturday, Oct. 19, at the Joeten-Kiyu Public Library, from 1pm to 3pm. This workshop will focus on creating characters for the novel you’ll write in November! Admission is free and open to people age 13 and over. Be a part of the Marianas Writers’ Movement!  This project is part of the “Rekindling Marianas Narratives: Write Your Novel!” mini-grant program and is made possible by support from the Northern Marianas Humanities Council, a non-profit, private corporation funded in part by the National Endowment for the Humanities. Any views, findings, conclusions or recommendations expressed in this program do not necessarily represent those of the National Endowment for the Humanities. (PR)

Master’s degree options at UOG
Those considering a master’s degree now or in the future will have an opportunity to explore 15 options available at the University of Guam through the university’s Graduate Program Recruitment Fair this Thursday. The fair is open to the public and will take place from 4pm to 7pm in the Micronesian ballroom at the Hilton Guam Resort & Spa.

The fair will feature tables for each of UOG’s graduate programs and will also provide opportunities for attendees to speak first-hand with current graduate students and faculty. Financial aid and admissions assistance will also be available, including information on available scholarships and assistantships. Pupus will be provided. Saipan writers’ workshop on Saturday
A Saipan writers’ workshop called “Little Flights of Fancy” World Tour will be held on Saturday, Oct. 19, 2019, at the Joeten-Kiyu Public Library, to be led by local author Walt Goodridge.

In this interactive three-hour workshop, Goodridge will share step-by-step instructions on how to start your book project, publish independently, and go from idea to sales. Goodridge is author of over two dozen books in a variety of genres.

This unique workshop will be held from 9am to 12pm, at the JKPL’s video teleconference room. Admission is $10 in advance, and $12 at the door (20% percent of admission proceeds will be donated to the library on the day of the event).

Business Expo 2019 on Nov. 9
The Saipan Chamber of Commerce will hold its newly re-instated Chamber Business Expo on Saturday, Nov. 9, from 9am to 4pm at the Saipan World Resort. The goal is for Chamber members to showcase their company and new products and services to the local market.

To sign up to be an exhibitor:
1. Visit and download the application packet on the Saipan Chamber of Commerce website at www.saipanchamber.com/events in the Events Page.
2. Complete and submit applications with payment to the Saipan Chamber of Commerce office on the third floor, Suite 315 of the Marianas Business Plaza or email to coordinator2@saipanchamber.com.
3. Registration is currently open and deadline for applications is Friday, Nov. 1, 2019, by 5pm.
