New season of Roccball kicks off

The indigenous sport of Roccball began its 40th season of annual games at the Marianas High School Gymnasium. This year there are eight teams in competition for the playoffs: Nakama, Tomodachi, I’d Hit That, Phan Gotte, Lotus, Bandits, Sufa, and Dusty Feetz.
The first of seven rounds of competition of four games per week ended last Friday, Jan. 13. The Roccball games are played at MHS from 11:30am and end after three sets of play are completed. The team that wins the third set of play with the most game points scored wins the game.
In the first round of play, last year’s veteran teams Tomodachi and Nakama won their first games. The heavy hitter of the game between Tomodachi and I’d Hit That was Jerome Manzon of Tomodachi. Manzon scored six aces and three goals. In the game between Nakama and Phan Gotte, players from both teams scored in all of Roccball’s scoring techniques that include court points, aces, xunks, jam, kee, and goals. Josiah Cruz of Phan Gott was the game’s heavy hitter with four aces and one goal.
In the games between first-year teams Lotus and Sufa and Dusty Feetz and Bandits, Lotus defeated Sufa and the Bandits defeated Dusty Feetz. Nohel Simina of Dusty Feets and Mino Chuweiluk of Sufa were their team’s heavy hitters in those games. (PR)
