The promotion allowed customers to rent a mailbox for the first three months for free.

The grand opening featured a ribbon cutting ceremony led by Dandan Postal Services owner Joe Ayuyu, who also owns McDonald’s Saipan, and his wife Marcia Ayuyu.

Fr. Rey D. Rosal, San Vicente parish priest, did the invocation and the blessing of the establishment.

Joe Ayuyu, in his remarks, recounted how Dandan Postal Services came about when he purchased the building through Bank of Guam last year. He thanked Saipan Postmaster Amy Marshall for helping them set up the business.

“In this bad economic time, I think any job created is a good sign for the islands. I hope we’re contributing to the community in our own way,” said Joe Ayuyu, adding that he remains optimistic that the business will grow to allow him to add more staff.

Saturday’s event was also attended by some dignitaries, including House Speaker Eli Cabrera (R-Saipan), Sen. Pete Reyes (R-Saipan), acting Commerce secretary Sixto Igisomar, and Bank of Guam vice president and CNMI regional manager Marcie Tomokane.

Cabrera, who signed up for a second mailbox at the event, said that Dandan residents have a lot to be happy about. Besides the new postal service, traffic lights at the San Vicente/Dandan junction were also recently activated.

“I congratulate Joe Ayuyu for giving convenience to many residents here in the area,” he said.

Igisomar, for his part, said it’s great to see a new business open up. “Taking the opportunity and the risk to open a business in this kind of environment is not easy,” he said.

During the event, refreshments were served to guests while Hapi D’ Clown provided entertainment for the children.
