Seven teams are most likely to compete in the upcoming season of the Marianas Interscholastic Sports Organization, which opens with the boys’ volleyball tournament on Sept. 30.

The girls’ basketball season starts on Oct. 1 with games to be played every Mondays and Wednesdays.

MISO director of operations Nick Gross said that they are expecting Kagman High School, Mt. Carmel School, Marianas Baptist Academy, Saipan Southern High School, Marianas High School, Saipan International School, and Grace Christian Academy to join this year’s competition.

“But we love to have other schools which are interested to join. We are planning to hold three games per night, every Tuesdays and Thursdays at 4:15pm. The season will stretch towards the end of November,” said Gross.

“We’re also hoping our neighbors to the south [schools from Tinian and Rota] will be able to join us in the tournament.”

SIS is the reigning two-time defending champion where it beat GCA two years in a row.

The new MISO season will be divided into the varsity (from grades 9 to 12) and junior varsity (from grades 9 to 10) divisions.

A 12-player roster in the varsity and 15-player (junior varsity) rosters are eligible to play in the tournament. Deadline of registration is on Friday.

The mandatory technical meeting for coaches, managers, and officials is set next Thursday, Sept. 11, at 4:30pm at the MHS Gymnasium conference room. Deadline for submission of eligibility requirements is on Sept. 19.

A free physical exam will be held on Sept. 13 from 8am to 12 noon at the MHS Gym. (Jon Perez)
