Gov. Eloy S. Inos signed into law last week several local bills that moved money from Saipan’s infrastructure tax fund to community projects across the island.

Inos signed into law Saipan Local Law 19-5, which appropriates $105,000 from the Third Senatorial District Developers Infrastructure Tax Fund. According to the bill, $40,000 will go to infrastructure improvements of the San Vicente basketball court. Improvements include sewage, restroom facilities, improved lighting and electrical systems, and a perimeter fence.

The bill also moved $425,000 to infrastructure improvements for the San Antonio Youth Center basketball court. The bill moves $10,000 for improvements to Precinct 1 roads, and $30,000 for the infrastructure improvements to Pakpak Beach.

Inos signed Saipan Local Law 19-7, which appropriates $110,000 from the infrastructure tax fund. That amount will go to drainage and flood control projects in Chalan Kanoa.

Inos also signed Saipan Local Law 19-8, which likewise moves $365,171.83 from the infrastructure tax fund. A total of $25,000 will go to electrical system improvements at San Ignacio Road in Talofofo Village; $10,0000 for flooding control at the intersection of Tun Thomas Sablan Road and Batto Pl; $40,000 for anti-skid paving along Dandan Road; and $10,000 for a speed bump on Alupyang Place in Chalan Piao.

The bill also appropriates $280,171.83 to the Northern Marianas College for electrical, water, and sewer system upgrades.

Other than the NMC appropriation, the expenditure authority of the appropriations of these bills is the secretary of the Department of Public Works. The college president will be expenditure authority for the NMC funds.
