The Head Start Parent Level Committee has elected a new batch of Head Start Policy Council members for the new school year.

Head Start/Early Head Start welcomed 12 new council members last weekend during the parent level committee turnover meeting at the Pacific Island Club Saipan.

The new council members are Jerika Laniyo, Rosemarie Skilling, Jacob Lizama, Ashley Bornilla, Javie Decena, Jennilyn Cruz, Millianna Camacho, Vivian Hocog, Bijoy Krisno Kundu, Alexander Standish, Joseph Barcinas, and Gertrude Li.

According to Jolene Guerrero Sablan, family and community partnership manager, HPC members, along with parent representatives, and alternates are elected through the parent level committee each new school year, at the first Central Parent Involvement Committee meetings by parents/guardians of enrolled children.

All parents/guardians with children enrolled in Head Start/Early Head Start are members of the CPIC.

Additional members of the HPC are community representatives who are elected by the new HPC, generally during their first meeting.

The program releases an announcement to advise the public that the HPC is searching for community representatives. Through this announcement, HPC receives information from interested individuals who will be willing to serve.

HPC members serve a year-long term and elections are held each new school year. HPC members can only serve a maximum of five terms.

The HPC works closely with the program’s management team and governing body to set the program’s direction.
