New Changming sweeps makeup matches

New Changming Market secured the No. 2 seed in the open division after posting back-to-back wins in a slew of makeup games in the 2nd Annual Saipan Centennial Lions Basketball League last Monday at the Civic Center Basketball Court in Susupe.

Win No. 1 came in the second game of the scheduled quadruple-header when New Changming beat Ali’i, 71-55, in a game originally played last April 17. 

Jeffrey Castro led them in this one with 19 points with Keith Santos chipping in 12 points. Ali’i, which resumed the game with none of their big men, was paced by the 18 points of Jaymark De Guzman and 15 points of Carlos Elchico.

New Changming then finished its elimination round assignments with an 8-2 record after a 91-63 dumping of The Game in the fourth game Monday.

The match, which was originally played last April 28, had Jack Aranda’s 15 points and Alvin Almario’s 14 points spearhead New Changming’s win, while The Game was led by Greg Sablan and Steve King 15 and 10 points, respectively. The Game ended the regular season at an even-steven 5-5 record.

In the first game, Ol’Aces improved to 4-2 in the masters division after edging JSN Enterprises, 91-86, in the continuation of their April 27 match.

The Pelisamen brothers again led the Oleai team’s charge with Freddie pumping in 21 markers and Ben adding 16 points. Jun Tabora fired a game-high 22 points for JSN, which finished the eliminations with a 3-4 mark.

The Game actually began the evening on a positive note after eclipsing JTM Saipan, 82-67, in the third game to conclude their April 21 contest in the open division.

Greg Deleon Guerrro led a balanced The Game attack with 14 points, while Matthew Richardson and Steve King added 11 points apiece. JTM Saipan, which closed with a 5-5 mark, was paced by the 12 markers of Jude Tengco with Jonel Broncano and Bryan Bernardo punching in 10 apiece.
