New Chang Ming Market and A’s Car Aircon won their respective open and masters division matches in the 2nd Annual Saipan Centennial Lions Basketball League last Tuesday at the Civic Center Basketball Court in Susupe.

In the nightcap, New Chang Ming Market let their guard down before eking past winless Checkpoint International, 80-74, for its fourth win in five games.

After starting out like a house on fire and leading 29-14 after the first quarter, New Chang Ming Market had a letdown and only led 47-41 and 62-56 after the middle quarters before settling for the 6-point win.

Keith Santos and Jeffrey Castro led New Chang Ming Market with 19 points and 17 points, respectively. Checkpoint International, which lost all its eight games so far in the season, was paced by the 17 markers of John Yanto.

Earlier, A’s Car Aircon bounced back from a loss in its previous game by beating Blue Eagle/Royal Pacific, 65-55.

Jorge De Guzman shone all game long with 23 points for A’s Car Aircon (4-1), while Jetzen Jandoc and Mark Francisco led Blue Eagle (2-3) with 11 points each.
