The presumptive positive case of the 17-year-old male that was disclosed last May 5 was confirmed positive yesterday, giving the CNMI a total of 15 confirmed positive cases and the first positive COVID-19 case in the last 18 days.

The individual is now isolated at the Alternative Care Site at Kanoa Resort in Susupe and is under close monitoring by the Commonwealth Healthcare Corp.

According to a statement from the Governor’s COVID-19 Task Force, the 17-year-old male was identified as a result of contact tracing and the community-based testing at the Francisco C. Ada/Saipan International Airport.

The individual is asymptomatic—which means he does not show any symptoms of COVID-19—and was confirmed for diagnosis at the Commonwealth Health Center laboratory.

“After consultation with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, CHCC considers this case to not be part of a new infection chain and is not considered infectious,” the statement said. This means that the individual is connected to one or more of the 14 confirmed positive cases.

CHCC has already initiated contact tracing for close family members, friends, and associates.

The task force and CHCC advises the community to continue to be careful and help reduce the transmission of the virus by staying home, avoiding crowds, and continuing to practice good hygiene.

Additionally, as of May 6 a total of 1,797 individuals have gotten tested at the Saipan airport. Of that number, 1,476 have already tested negative; the results of others remain pending.

To date, there are now 15 confirmed positive cases in the CNMI, with 12 recoveries and two deaths.

To date, there have been 149 confirmed COVID-19 cases in Guam, with five deaths and 124 who’ve been released from isolation.
