Tropical Storm Nepartak is now a super typhoon, but fortunately it’s moving farther away Guam and will not make landfall in the Philippines.

According to the U.S. National Weather Service in Guam, packing maximum sustained winds at 160 miles per hour, Super Typhoon Nepartak was moving west-northwest at 21mph as of 2pm yesterday.

Nepartak’s center was 295 miles southeast of Taipei, 515 miles south of Okinawa, 880 miles northwest of Yap, and 1,090 miles west-northwest of Guam.

Nepartak is anticipated to continue intensifying through Thursday, will pass near west-northwest Philippines, then will take toward Taiwan on Thursday afternoon.

The typhoon force winds extend outward up to 45 miles from the center and tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 195 miles from the center.

A tropical cyclone becomes a super typhoon when its maximum sustained winds reach 150mph or more.
