NBG to test its Giant Voice system

SANTA RITA, Guam—U.S. Naval Base Guam will conduct a test of its broadcast system, commonly known as the Giant Voice, at 8am and 6:30pm on July 25.

During this test, the national anthem and evening colors will be played in preparation for its official launch.

Naval Base Guam plans to play the national anthem and evening colors on the Giant Voice starting on Aug. 1. It was originally scheduled to begin on July 4 but was postponed due to technical difficulties.

It is a time-honored tradition to play the national anthem while raising the U.S. flag on a military installation. This time it is referred to as “Colors.” Currently, the anthem and evening colors are played at the NBG headquarters daily.

The Giant Voice will be activated in the following areas: Naval Computer and Telecommunications Station Guam, South Finegayan housing, Flag Circle, I Puntan at Nimitz Hill, North and South Tipalao, Camp Covington, Apra View, Naval Magazine site (upper and lower), Lockwood Housing, U.S. Naval Hospital Guam, U.S. Coast Guard and Polaris Point.

Residents and patrons in the surrounding areas should not be alarmed if they hear increased activity associated with the test. (PR)
