SANTA RITA, Guam—U.S. Naval Base Guam (NBG) will be hosting a ribbon cutting ceremony for the new Navy Exchange (NEX) Minimart and Gas Station on base at 9:30am, Dec. 19.

Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Marianas awarded the contract for the project on July 12, 2014 to P&S Construction and AMEC Engineering. The new NEX Minimart & Gas Station will replace the existing facility. The last day of operations for the existing Gas Station/Auto Port will be Dec. 18, 2014.

The new facility is a critical part of the revitalization and modernization of NBG. The facility consists of a large minimart facility with retail sales, customer service, receiving and storage, public toilets and employee facilities. The new facility will also feature a Subway fast food franchise that will be in full operation by late December.

The gas station consists of seven double-sided fuel dispensing islands for three grades of gasoline and diesel, under a full canopy. The gas station also features debit/credit card sales point inside the minimart. There is also a tire air pump and auto vacuum station.

The project completion date is Dec. 18 with final contract cost of $8.9 million dollars.
