Navy to enter lease negotiations for 49-acre lot on US Naval Base Guam

APRA HARBOR, Guam-Naval Facilities Engineering Command Marianas will enter into exclusive negotiations with the successful offeror, Guam Industrial Services Inc., for lease of 49 acres of Navy property on U.S. Naval Base Guam. This site is currently being used for ship repair activities by Guam Industrial Services Inc.
“Following extensive competitive solicitation procedures [that] began in January and included an industry forum and a tour of the property, our series of technical and financial evaluation boards convened in March and April to complete their assessments,” said NAVFAC Marianas Commanding Officer Capt. John Heckmann. “Our team is prepared to begin exclusive negotiations to discuss the details of this real estate arrangement. Our strong desire is to reach agreement on the terms of this important lease.”
The Navy has determined that maintaining ship repair operations in Guam is strategically vital to the mission and operations of the Pacific Fleet. The scope of the required capability includes the ability to provide ship repair services to military ships, plus property and environmental management to ensure this capability is sustained at this location.
Negotiations are expected to commence immediately with an expected completion this summer. The current real estate agreement between the Navy and the Guam Economic Development Authority will expire at the end of September 2012. (NAVFAC)
