Navy mourns death of Guam sailor
AGAT, Guam-On July23 Information Technician 2nd Class Anna Sterling stationed at Naval Computer and Telecommunications Station Guam was involved in a fatal motorcycle accident while driving through Agat, Guam.
Police and emergency services were on-scene immediately after the accident and she was transported to U.S. Naval Hospital Guam where she was pronounced dead by medical personnel.
Sterling had been stationed in Guam since July 2009 when she reported to USS Frank Cable and had just recently transferred to NCTS Guam in May 2012.
“Information Technician 2nd Class Sterling was one of the most well-liked sailors at our command. In the time that we knew her, she was never seen with anything less than an optimistic approach and a smile to everything that she did,” said NCTS Guam executive officer Lt. Cmdr. Randal Fuller. “Her loss is devastating to us here at NCTS Guam. She will be sorely missed.”
Sterling is originally from Bellevue, WA, and enlisted in the Navy on Aug. 1, 2000. Her tours included NCTS Keflavik, Iceland, USS Abraham Lincoln, and Naval Computer and Telecommunications Area Master Station Pacific before transferring to Guam. She was awarded The Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, and Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary and Service Medals.
