Navy Hill water main break results in emergency temporary water outage

A major water line break along Navy Hill Sunday evening has left Commonwealth Utilities Corp. customers in the surrounding areas without water service.

CUC customers living along Navy Hill between Magas Loop and Gloria Drive, as well as customers in Chinatown and Upper Mihaville, lost water service Sunday evening when the 12-inch water main burst at the eastern entrance to Magas Loop.

CUC contractor GPPC Inc. began working with CUC engineers and operations staff to identify the cause of the break Monday morning and will continue until all repairs are made.

“As work will be performed at the site through the night, CUC urges drives to take special precautions to ensure the safety of our crews and our contractors,” said CUC in a statement yesterday.

While no timeline is available for the completion of repairs, acting executive director John Riegel believes full water service will be restored to the affected areas today, July 28.
