Navy Hill water main break repaired, service restored

Service was restored to Commonwealth Utilities Corp. customers affected by Sunday evening’s water main break along Navy Hill after crews spent 18 hours to replace an 18-foot section of ruptured pipe.

CUC customers along Navy Hill between Magas Loop and Gloria Drive, as well as customers in Chinatown and Upper Mihaville lost water service Sunday when the 12-inch water main burst at the eastern entrance to Magas Loop.

CUC and GPPC Inc. began working to identify the cause of the break Monday morning. CUC Water and Wastewater Trades supervisor Glenn Villagomez and CUC junior engineer Nicolette Villagomez were on hand to oversee the project along with Water and Wastewater Trades assistant Ben Sablan.

The combined team of CUC and GPPC crewmen worked through the night until repair and replacement efforts were completed Tuesday afternoon.

Acting executive director John Riegel thanked his staff and GPPC project manager Dennis Tupa, for the work he and his crew performed at the site.

“I wish to extend my appreciation to Dennis and the entire crew mobilized to attend to the leak on Navy Hill Road yesterday,” said Riegel. “GPPC was very responsive and willing to help CUC with the major leak in the water main.”
