Navy awards $16.8M task order to small biz

SANTA RITA, Guam-Naval Facilities Engineering Command Marianas awarded a $16.8 million firm-fixed-price task order on Sept. 1 to Bulltrack-Watts A JV, a small business, for the construction of a new Combined Support Maintenance Shop at the Guam Army National Guard Barrigada complex.
The California-based company will provide for construction of a pre-engineered metal building with cast tilt-up concrete panels and masonry block interior partitions. The building will consist of a specially designed maintenance facility, maintenance work bays, and administrative and personnel work areas.
“Our current maintenance areas are limited, following the tremendous growth we have experienced over the last several years,” said Maj. Gen. Benny M. Paulino, the adjutant general, Guam National Guard. “This maintenance project, once it is complete, will help bring our current facilities to a level that matches the maintenance needs of our organization and provide the space and work areas considered necessary, as we continue to grow and train to serve our island, and our nation in the near future.”
This task order was awarded under a previously awarded small business multiple award construction contract.
“Historically, small businesses have been the engines to fuel America’s economy,” said Capt. John Heckmann, NAVFAC Marianas commanding officer. “This award is another fine demonstration of our close coordination with the small business community in identifying capable industry partners to fulfill mission critical requirements in our joint Military environment.”
Work is expected to be completed by April 2013. Six proposals were received for this task order. (NAVFAC)
