NAVFAC Marianas receives award for exceeding all small business goals
PITI, Guam—Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Marianas received a Certificate of Small Business Achievement Excellence from NAVFAC Headquarters (HQ) in April for the team’s impressive success in exceeding all Small Business Program target goals in fiscal year (FY) 2015.
“I am pleased to recognize and congratulate our acquisition workforce,” said NAVFAC Marianas Commanding Officer Capt. Stephanie Jones. “This award is a fine example of the quality and caliber of small businesses available to support the military mission on Guam, and a testament to the hard work and dedication of the entire team at NAVFAC Marianas.”
In FY 2015, the small business goal established for NAVFAC Marianas was 46 percent of total procurement actions. NAVFAC Marianas awarded 52.3 percent of its total procurement to Small Business concerns. Of that amount, 19 percent were Historically Underutilized Business (HUB) Zone small businesses; more than 43 percent were small disadvantaged businesses (SDB); and more than 5 percent of procurement dollars went to women owned small businesses (WOSB).
“Your leadership and the collective team efforts exemplify the Federal Acquisition System vision to deliver on a timely basis the best value products and services to our Supported Commands while maintaining the public’s trust and fulfilling public policy objectives,” wrote NAVFAC Commander and Chief of Civil Engineers Rear Adm. Bret Muilenburg in a congratulatory letter to NAVFAC Marianas. Muilenburg went on to commend the command and its acquisition workforce for a job well done. “I am honored to acknowledge your leadership, commitment and demonstration of accountability for NAVFAC Marianas’ performance in exceeding all small business targets for FY 2015 NAVFAC Small Business Program Award category.”
NAVFAC Marianas Small Business Professional Norma Borja credited active outreach as one of the primary reasons for their success. “Our efforts in the community enable us to identify qualified small businesses that can potentially provide the products and services required to support our government clients and accomplish our mission,” said Borja. “Active outreach enhances our success by meeting with contractors and vendors interested in conducting business with NAVFAC Marianas,” she said. “We provide tips and suggestions on how to be successful in competing for our requirements.”
