Naval Base Guam to conduct tsunami exercise

Share

SANTA RITA, Guam—U.S. Naval Base Guam will be conducting its annual tsunami exercise tomorrow, Dec. 6, starting at approximately 9am.

The four-hour tsunami exercise gives NBG headquarters, emergency management operations and its tenant commands a chance to exercise command and control capabilities in response to a natural disaster. The NBG Giant Voice mass notification system will be used in conjunction with this exercise, as well as temporary closures of beaches to help simulate what security and support teams would be doing in event of a pending tsunami to hit Guam. Residents and nearby communities may hear sounds and voices coming from the Giant Voice, but they are only related to the exercise.

The purpose of the exercise is to prepare for the real thing—with an organized, time-phased evacuation, timely accountability procedures and damage assessments with the purpose of saving lives. (PR)
