On Jan. 25, the first MYPros membership meet-up of the year saw over 50 new members as well as business and sponsor support.
The event was held at Aqua Resort Club and the guest speaker, Pulitzer Prize nominee Nancy Borowick, gave a photo presentation of her work building a well in Africa as well as her award-nominated series, The Family Imprint.
Borowick, originally from New York, made the move to Guam last year and plans to explore the island through her art and is already planning some collaborations. In her presentation, Borowick spoke of how important it is to always meet people and make connections.
Throughout the evening, the newly minted MYPros board was able to meet and greet new members as well as talk about the exciting new things MYPros will be up to this year such as the Mentor a MYPros event in March.
Matthew Deleon Guerrero, the 2017 president, welcomed the new members and commented on partnership and growth of the young professionals on Saipan.
“It was a really awesome start to 2017 for MYPros! We love seeing and greeting all the new members to our association,” said MyPros vice president Nola Hix. “We really want to thank the mentors that also attended our event, Alex Sablan of TanHoldings along with Frances Demapan of Joeten Motors and Chailang Palacios.”
The evening also included MYPros member Ajani Burrell speaking about his upcoming book project that focuses on culture in the Marianas as well as new board member Frank “The Crank” Camacho sharing his startup success in online marketing and Web design.
“It was a wonderful evening and I’m humbled and excited to be the 2017 president,” said Deleon Guerrero. “I can’t wait to get started on the year’s projects, starting with the ‘Mentor a MYPro’ event. We really want to see all the well-respected business people [on] Saipan at this event. Our MYPros can really benefit from their experience and wisdom.”
Besides Deleon Guerrero and Hix, the 2017 MYPros board members are Kaitlyn Neises-Mocanu, secretary; Christian Delos Santos, treasurer; Sheila Babauta, director; Frannie Demapan, director; and Camacho, director.
Sponsors included MARPAC Distributors, Kanoa Resort, Triple J Saipan, Pacifica Insurance, IT&E, Joeten Enterprises, TRIBE Marianas, and Mike Ronesia Photography.
