MyPROs to host ‘March for HERS’
In celebration of CNMI Women’s Month, the Marianas Young Professionals invite the community to participate in the “March for HERS” event on Saturday, March 25, from 2:30pm to 5:30pm at the American Memorial Park Theater on Saipan.
“We’re very excited to participate in Women’s Month this year. Women’s issues affect everyone and so should be everyone’s concern. We’re honored to be able to help educate the community and kickstart these conversations in the CNMI,” said Matt Deleon Guerrero, MYPros president.
Promoting this year’s theme, “Empowering Women to be Leaders for Change,” the focus of the event will be to educate attendees through a series of brief presentations and open discussions from a wide variety of subject matter experts. The aim is to equip participants with knowledge they can bring back into their communities to advocate and speak confidently on crucial women’s issues related to Health, Economic Security, Representation, and Safety or HERS. Participants will use what they learned from the presentations as inspiration to design signages for a subsequent march through Garapan.
Light refreshments and sign-making materials will be available. This event is open to everyone and all genders and ages are encouraged to attend. Watch for further details on the Marianas Young Professionals Facebook page.
Why do women’s issues matter?
Statistically, women and girls are disproportionately affected by discrimination and poverty, but research shows that when women and girls are able to fully and freely participate in the economy, national economies grow stronger.
When communities take steps to ensure that women have access to appropriate and affordable healthcare, safe environments, good jobs, and governments which advocate for their best interests, everyone benefits.
The United Nations recognized the importance of this linkage by naming “Gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls” as No. 5 of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals for 2030.
Founded in February of 2015, MYPros is an organization that aims to provide young professionals with unique opportunities for professional development, entrepreneurial endeavors, networking, mentoring, and civic engagement.
