MYPros backs breast cancer awareness campaign in Oct.

October doesn’t just bring us spiced treats, candies, and haunted attractions; it’s also Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Throughout the month of October, the Marianas Young Professionals, or MYPros, will help support breast cancer awareness in the community through its “Cancer Doesn’t Discriminate” campaign. The original dates set for awareness activities were postponed to this week due to the inclement weather and damaging storm. MYPros apologizes for any inconvenience and scheduling conflict this may cause with other events planned this week.

This Thursday, Oct. 22, 2015, MYPros will hold a roadside waving at the Bank of Guam traffic light intersection (Route 308) from 4pm to 6:30pm. MYPros officially became the 23rd member of the Adopt a Highway Program of the Department of Public Works back in June 2015.

On Saturday, Oct. 24, 2015, MYPros, in partnership with the Marianas Walking Association, PDI, KKMP, IT&E, Bridge Capital LLC, and Foremost, will host its first annual Breast Cancer Aqua Walk from 6am to 10am at Aquarius beach front in Chalan Kanoa. The boundaries will be set for this 2-mile course which would be at least 20 laps in the ocean and/or two walks on the beach side to and from the Sugar Dock mark to the mark in front of CK Beach Club.

Registration begins at 5am and is free and open to the public. All participants will be issued a free bottle of Foremost Pink Fruita+. The first 100 participants will receive a complimentary gift from IT&E. Minors under 18 must have adult supervision.

In the aftermath of Typhoon Soudelor and Tropical Storm Champi, MYPros is also hosting a THINK PINK! spirit contest during the Aqua Walk open to all participating high schools. The “Most Spirited Class” from one of the high schools will win $500 in cash.

“In the spirit of recovery and resiliency, we hope to make this a fun-filled event for the entire family,” said Nola Hix, MYPros vice president.
