The Mariana Visitors Authority’s office will remain at its current location along Beach Road in San Jose even after its long-term lease contract expired early this month. MVA’s current lease agreement is with Pacific International Marianas, represented by Ty Izuka, and they remain in the premises under legal authority until owners of the current property says otherwise.

At the MVA special board meeting last Wednesday, MVA managing director Priscilla Iakopo said she received an email from lawyer Robert T. Torres, who represents one of the owners of the property, and mentioned that he is still finalizing the special power of attorney and as long as there are no updates on that, the lease of MVA remains “in status quo.”

“What this means is they are extending the lease of Ty Izuka of Pacific International Marianas for another month,” Iakopo said. “This also means that they are having Ty continue to manage the property and so we will continue to pay him for the rent. …We did actually receive a letter from Ty indicating that he will continue managing the property, including our payments…until May 31st. …He also said that this will continue until the special power of attorney as mentioned by attorney Torres has been finalized.”

Meanwhile, the search for a new MVA office is still ongoing, led by board director Chris Nelson. “There are a number of sites that we have looked at. … The good news is there are a lot of potential sites but currently, no decision is being made as we are still in the exploratory stage,” he said.

MVA’s current office space is a part of an expiring long-term lease between the Pangelinan estate and Pacific International Marianas. MVA’s original lease was arranged more than 30 years ago and expired early this month.
