On Dec.1-3, 2017, the Marianas Visitors Authority joined hands with Century Tours, Shenzhen Professional Int’l Travel Service, and HK Express to participate in the 4th Shenzhen International Tourism Expo. This was the first time the MVA has participated in the SITE.

China SITE at Shenzhen Convention & Exhibition attracted over 420 exhibitors from more than 40 countries and regions, reaching 85,567 expo visitors, include trade buyers, other trade representatives, and consumers.

“As the sole professional and authoritative international tourism industry event in Shenzhen, SITE was a great opportunity for the MVA to reach residents of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao and bring some fresh island style to the exhibition,” said MVA managing director Christopher A. Concepcion. “This large geographic area, known famously as the Pearl River Delta, has over 150 million residents so it was important for the MVA to participate to reach this massive audience. We appreciate the strong support of our tourism partners in China, and this exhibition gave us an opportunity to reinforce existing partnerships and exchange views with a wide range of other potential partners in mainland China. We are very optimistic about the future development of the market and will continue to work to make Saipan, Tinian, and Rota the first island destination of choice for the China market.”

Nearly 230,000 mainland Chinese tourists visited the Marianas last fiscal year, accounting for 35 percent of total visitor arrivals.

Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Hangzhou and Hong Kong have non-stop flights to Saipan, while nearly 20 cities across the country have opened transit flights to the destination.

The Marianas is the only American territory offering Chinese tourists a visa- free policy, which has greatly benefited the tourism industry. (MVA)
