As part of its latest destination enhancement work, the Marianas Visitors Authority has issued two RFPs for the Flower Island Project, which will begin with improvements to Coral Tree Avenue, Beach Road medians, and the Paseo de Marianas.
Proposals are being sought for landscaping services along Beach Road and Coral Tree Avenue. The project involves the planting of Royal Palm trees, Temple Fire Bouganvillea, and turfon the two northernmost traffic medians on Beach Road near the American Memorial Park. Pink Tacomah trees damaged by Typhoon Soudelor will be replaced along Coral Tree Avenue in front of Fiesta Resort & Spa and Hyatt Regency Saipan.
The MVA is also soliciting proposals for A&E design and landscaping designs for improvements to the Paseo de Marianas pedestrian mall. The improvements will include a new children’s play area with benches and lighting, an outdoor stage, new roofs for shaded seating, uplighting of trees, new signage, and more.
“Flower Island Project aims to create a lasting impression of tropical beauty for visitors, and the two RFPs issued this month are just the beginning,” said MVA Community Projects manager Martin Duenas. “We’re looking forward to selecting contractors within the next couple of months to begin working with our new product development manager, who is responsible to oversee and help expedite all destination enhancement projects. We are expecting projects to move more quickly under their management, although of course we still need to comply with all procurement procedures and timelines.”
