With the January 2017 launch of direct flights from Hong Kong to the Marianas, the Marianas Visitors Authority and HK Express recently held a familiarization tour, or FAM tour, for media and key opinion leaders, KOLs, to generate publicity.
“With the recent launch of direct flights from Hong Kong, there’s no better time than now to have media and KOLs come and discover the allure of the Marianas,” said MVA marketing manager Bruce Bateman. “This recent FAM tour has generated positive coverage for us not only in Hong Kong, but also throughout the Pearl River Delta where many visitors are booking via Hong Kong on HK Express. Key opinion leaders play an ever more important role in reaching our target audiences via social media and other web-based means.”
The FAM tour was held on Feb. 21-25, 2017, on Saipan and Tinian. Activities included an island tour of major historic and scenic sites on Saipan and Tinian, including Marpi and North Field as well as a local farm, Managaha and San Juan Beach. Dining was sampled at Surf Club, Hard Rock Café Saipan, Best Sunshine Live Lounge and Noodle Bar, JC Café, and SandCastle Saipan. The media team also experienced indigenous culture with Bojobo doll-making and
Chamorro and Carolinian arts and crafts and dancing. The group also enjoyed shopping at T Galleria, I Love Saipan, Joeten Hafa Adai Shopping Center, and along Paseo de Marianas.
Participating companies were Nanfang Daily, Metro Daily, Sing Tao Daily, Oriental Daily, Information Times, Yangcheng Evening News, Wen Wei Po, and key opinion leaders Sugar’s Roaming and Sunshine Travel Photography. (MVA)
