The airline that brings Russian tourists to the Commonwealth, AviaCharters DV, will be suspending flights in September and October to make way for the launch of a new flight program.

According to Marianas Visitors Authority Perry Tenorio and MVA marketing specialist for Russia Tatiana Babauta, AviaCharters DV is partnering up with Orenburg Airlines for a new flight program to the CNMI.

AviaCharters DV announced on their website that at the end of October of this year they will launch a new flight program that will run a new plane.

Tenorio told Saipan Tribune that the seat capacity of the airplane that AviaCharters is currently using is about 186. The new plane will be a Boeing 737-800 that carries 168 seats, with 12 of them in business class.

Tenorio said the information they got from AviaCharters as of now is that they will cease flights on Sept. 1 and will begin on Oct. 27.

“This time of the year, we’re looking at the cancellation and the impact on hotels that we might not have those air services and confer if we can have the Asiana Airlines help with that,” Tenorio said.

Hoteliers so far are not experiencing mass cancellations but a few cancellations and change in flight plans only.

According to Pacific Islands Club general manager Hiroki Sugie, some Russian tour agents have already started canceling future bookings but he is not sure of other cancellations.

Saipan World Resort Russian market manager Oleg Chentsov said that some tour agents have cancelled a few bookings while many others transferred their flights to Asiana Airlines.

AviaCharter chief executive officer Roman Chernyavskii announced in the company’s website that all Russian tour agents were informed of the new flight program prior to the changes.

Chernyavskii stated that they have met with Orenburg Airlines and that agreements were reached on the implementation of the new flight program.

The new flight program, according to Chernyavskii’s statement, includes a new plane, a Boeing 737-800, and the geography of flights to Saipan and Guam will be expanded to add the Philippines (Manila), Bali, and Tashkent.
