Music organizations get together for relief distribution in Kagman
Several music organizations handed out hygiene supplies and tools to repair damaged homes yesterday, starting with shelterees at the Kagman Emergency Shelter Facility.
J.J. Concepcion, president of the Music of the Marianas Association, said that Elijah Reyes, owner of Dandan Marianas, spearheaded the effort with the Lady Diann Torres Foundation.
“[Reyes] put together a concert of musicians from Saipan, Guam, Rota, and Tinian on Guam, where all the proceeds went to this cause,” he said.
Concepcion said that about 200 buckets were filled with household supplies such as dishwashing liquid, shampoo, butane gas, and even a hammer. The group also handed out drinking water for the shelterees at the Kagman Emergency Shelter Facility.
There are currently 34 families in the KESF, totaling 136 people. Each family received one bucket and some water.
Of the 200 buckets, 50 are headed to Tinian, according to Concepcion. The remaining buckets and water were reportedly distributed at other villages, including San Antonio, Koblerville, Chalan Kanoa, and some areas in As Lito.
Concepcion is open to the idea of doing a similar fundraising concert on Saipan—if anyone is interested in getting it together. “…It [would be] quite a task because everybody is busy right now. Everybody is helping each other,” he said.
Claudia Flores, who represented the Lady Diann Torres Foundation during the relief distribution, said their organization has been working non-stop since Typhoon Mangkhut struck Rota in early September.
“…From there, with Super Typhoon Yutu, it got us to work more collaboratively with one another…[We] are more like family now,” she said.
Ayuda Luta, a relief drive that raised over $8,000 during its first two weeks of solicitation for Typhoon Mangkhut, also helped with the Saipan and Tinian distributions yesterday.
