Municipal Council chair to run for House seat
Saipan and Northern Islands Municipal Council chair Luis John “L.J.” DLG Castro has officially announced his candidacy for a seat in the CNMI House of Representatives in the upcoming election.
Castro will be running under the NMI Republican Party as representative for Precinct 1.
“Running for this office was something I have wanted to do in the past, but yet due to certain setbacks I was not able to. Now, with encouragement from friends and loved ones, it is an ambition I’m excited to seek,” he said.
Castro was a member of the Saipan and Northern Islands Municipal Council for the past two years.
“In this election, I seek to serve the people who I looked up to growing up, and those whose lives I’ve been privileged to enrich through my work in the community as both a citizen and as a public official,” he said.
Castro is active in the church and was a senator in the second, third, and fourth CNMI Youth Congress.
He cited his experience of having worked with the late governor Eloy S. Inos and Gov. Ralph DLG Torres.
Castro plans on running his campaign with the same platform he used when seeking election to the council: commitment, collaboration, and community.
“With these ‘Three C’s’ as I like to call them, I hope to draft legislation together with my colleagues in the Legislature that will not only benefit our precinct, but the entire Commonwealth as a whole and continue the progress that has been made so far,” he said.
