The Marianas Tourism Education Council kicked off its annual school presentations on Oct. 19, 2017, at Kagman High School, speaking to students about working in the tourism and hospitality industry.

Kanoa Resort Saipan operations manager and MTEC board member Glenn Policare shared with the students the need for their active participation in the industry.

“Our most recent MTEC educational outreach to Kagman High School focused on the numerous opportunities here in the CNMI,” said Policare. “With tourism numbers climbing, so is the demand for individuals with the passion and drive to serve those making the trip to the Marianas. It was great to field questions from the dozens of students who were in attendance and inspiring to hear them answers the questions from our quiz.”

In addition to Policare, MTEC board member Catherine Perry presented an overview of tourism in the Marianas and Marianas Visitors Authority Community Projects specialist Demalynn Pagarao shared about the responsibilities and activities of the state tourism agency.

“We’re very pleased to be beginning this year’s outreach presentations to share the importance of the tourism industry with our CNMI students and how they can be a part of the industry,” said MTEC chair Vicky Benavente. “MTEC is especially pleased to have the continued strong support in this initiative of the MVA, which will be playing an even larger role in our presentation s this year.

MTEC plans to present to 5th, 8th, and 10th graders this year on Saipan, Tinian, and Rota in partnership with MVA. The presentations are also sponsored by the Hotel Association of the Northern Mariana Islands, Kanoa Resort Saipan, Fiesta Resort & Spa, Ernst & Young, Pacific Islands Club Saipan, and T Galleria.
