Mt. Carmel soldiers on with Christmas shows this holiday season

Despite all the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, Mount Carmel School remains steadfast in bringing the Christmas spirit this season with several shows this weekend and next weekend.
This weekend, the school’s award-winning concert band and will hold its 3rd Annual Christmas Concert. Led by maestro Julian Greening and featuring the Su-San Band as a special guest, the concert will showcase dozens of students performing a wide variety of Christmas songs. The concert will be presented on Saturday, Dec. 12, at Mount Carmel Cathedral, with doors opening at 4pm and the concert starting at 4:30pm. The concert will also be streamed on Facebook at www.facebook.com/mtcarmelcnmi. To comply with COVID-19 Mitigation Guidelines, this will be a ticketed event with limited seats available.
Next weekend, the school’s Theatre Club will host a Family Movie Night featuring holiday shorts and a special screening of the club’s epic teenage romantic comedy from 2011, Zero to Hero. The Family Movie Night will be held in the school quad (or in the auditorium in the event of rain) on Thursday, Dec. 17, at 7pm. Tickets at $5 each can be purchased in the Business Office or at the door. To comply with COVID-19 Mitigation Guidelines, the movie night will be a ticketed event with limited seats available.
The school will then present its 68th Annual Christmas Program on Friday, Dec. 18, at 7pm, in the school quad (or in the auditorium in the event of rain). The Christmas Program is a cherished tradition that dates back to the school’s founding year 1952, making it the longest continuously running performing arts program on island. To ensure everyone’s safety and to comply with COVID-19 mitigation guidelines, this year’s program will be a hybrid show, featuring both videos of each grade level performing Christmas songs and live performances from members of the Knight family. After the program, all performances will be uploaded on the school’s YouTube channel, www.youtube.com/c/MountCarmelSchool. Again, to comply with COVID-19 Mitigation Guidelines, the program will be ticketed event with limited seats available and tickets available from students’ teachers.
In addition to these shows, the school continues to invite the community to avail of its first ever Holiday Coupon Fundraiser. Each coupon booklet costs only $50 and is filled with coupons valued up to $400 from your favorite local establishments, including Fishing Tackle, Herman’s Bakery, Kensington Saipan Hotel, T Bar, Tribe Marianas, Bubba Gump, and more. Proceeds from the fundraiser will aid the school’s academic programs and services, infrastructural improvements, and COVID-19 mitigation efforts. To purchase a booklet, visit the Business Office.
