It was also the Knights’ second straight win after absorbing a 57-27 trouncing from defending champions MHS Dolphins in last week’s Jamboree. Mt. Carmel defeated SIS, 44-39, on Jan. 17, while its two other victories were recorded against Marianas Baptist Academy and Grace Christian Academy.

The Knights, who led by nine after the opening quarter, stepped on the gas further in the second period to break the game wide open and cruise to victory.

Alfonso Evangelista scored 7 of the Knights’ 18 points in the second canto to help his team enter the halftime break enjoying a huge 32-10 spread. Mt. Carmel was never threatened after that and even posted a 27-point lead, 49-22, entering the final period.

William Camacho scattered 15 points to pace the Knights, while Evangelista finished with 10 with Jonah Hahn and Ganjo Gamab combining for 15 markers.

Kim Young Kwang led SIS with 9 markers, while brothers Allen and Christopher Cepeda, and Jehn Joyner added 5 points each.

MCS improved to 4-2, while SIS dropped its fifth straight game since opening with a 48-23 crushing of Marianas Baptist Academy on Jan. 9.

In the first game, Aaron Ogumoro tallied 17 points while Christian Arceo chipped in 14 as Kagman High School 9 escaped with a 45-43 decision over Saipan Southern High School 9.

Kagman finally recorded a victory after three games, while keeping Saipan Southern winless also in three matches.

The loss wasted June Alipio’s 20 points for Southern.

The Ayuyus had a double celebration after their junior varsity squad thrashed MHS 9, 59-30, behind Roke Tenorio’s game-long brilliance.

Tenorio ended up with 17 points to lead Kagman JV to an even 2-2 record, while MHS 9 dropped to 1-2.

Darion Jones and Jeffrey Castro made 14 and 11 markers to provide scoring support to Tenorio.

Adrian De Luna was the lone MHS 9 player who finished in double figures with, 13 while Matthew Mamaril came up with 9 points.

Action continues today with MHS JV facing KHS 9 in the 4pm first game and Southern battling MHS at 5:20pm in an all-JV match. Grace Christian Academy takes on MBA in the 6:30pm nightcap.
