Mt. Carmel 2 slips past Chacha 2

Mount Carmel School 2 topped Chacha Oceanview Middle School 2 in their game in the 2019-2020 Public School System Interscholastic Girls Middle School Volleyball League last Wednesday at the Marianas High School Gymnasium.
The Lady Knights needed three tough sets to triumph against Chacha 2. In the first set, Mt. Carmel 2 eked out a 21-20 victory. Chacha 2 then averted Mt. Carmel 2’s bid for a sweep after prevailing in the second set, 21-16. In the deciding third set, the Lady Knight regained their form and notched a 15-10 win.
In other results last week, Hopwood Middle School swept its opponents.
In the match pitting Hopwood 3 against MCS 1, the former came out victorious, taking the win in straight sets. Hopwood 3 won by 6 in the first set, 21-15, and completed the sweep second set, 21-17.
Hopwood 1 also took only two sets to beat Francisco M. Sablan Middle School. The Hilitais claimed the first set 21-17, and finished the game early with a 21-18 victory in the second.
Hopwood 2’s match with Tanapag Middle School proved to be the most challenging for the Hilitais, as the game was only decided after three sets. Tanapag won the set, 21-19, before the Hilitais battled back in the set, 21-14. Hopwood 2 completed the come-from-behind win with a 15-9 triumph in the third.
Meanwhile, Chacha 1, Agape Christian School, Saipan International School, and Grace Christian Academy also played last Wednesday.
Chacha 1 and Agape also played an extended game with Chacha 1 drawing first blood, 21-18. Agape bounced back in the second set, 21-10, but Chacha 1 still emerged victorious in the end after taking the deciding third, 15-11.
In the SIS-GCA tiff, the Lady Eagles had a straight sets victory, 23-14, 21-14.
Games in the middle school volleyball competition will resume this Wednesday with Hopwood 1 taking on Mt. Carmel 1, Hopwood 3 battling FMS, and Chacha 1 dueling Dandan 2 on the north court. On the southern end, it will be SIS vs Dandan 1; Chacha 2 against Tanapag, and Hopwood 2 over Mt. Carmel 1.
