MRE to offer solar batteries that store electricity
To make home solar power even more attractive, CNMI customers will soon have the option to store their excess solar energy in case of a typhoon or blackout.
Micronesia Renewable Energy says their systems will store excess solar power and result in less dependence on the “grid.”
These systems are called PowerUp Max and will be available as part of MRE’s solar service agreement.
“For the first time, homeowners will be able to capture and store electricity generated by our solar energy systems,” MRE’s Chris Rosario told Saipan Tribune.
Customers can store energy and use it when the need it, he said, like at night or during power outages.
“Regardless if the grid power is out, homeowners with our systems will always have electricity even after storms or during rolling blackouts,” he said, calling this technology “groundbreaking” in the industry.
MRE explains that these systems enable customers to store the excess power produced by their solar systems. This enhanced functionality will give them less dependence on the electric grid, as well as access to power in the event of an outage.
PowerUp Max contains batteries that store the excess power generated by solar power systems to be used by customers when they need it.
Versus feeding this power back to the grid, an inverter or charger operates in non-export mode to handle a home’s energy needs with solar or battery energy.
In the event of a power outage, a switch in the inverter/charger automatically isolates the home from the electric grid to prevent the stored energy from feeding back into the power lines, so customers can then use the excess solar energy stored in the batteries as back-up.
“We are continuously striving to provide the residents of CNMI with comprehensive energy systems that fulfill their power needs,” said Jeff Voacolo, chief operating officer of MRE.
“These new solar energy storage systems will make certain that customers are able to achieve more intelligent power consumption, additional savings, and increased reliability.”
PowerUp Max is covered by a comprehensive warranty package, which includes system maintenance, repairs and 24/7 monitoring.
MRE is located in Gualo Rai on the first floor of the Island Commercial Center.
