MP United Football Club took the solo lead in the boys U14 division, while Matansa recovered from its season-debut loss in the 2017 NMIFA Youth Spring League last Saturday at the Koblerville Elementary School Field.
MP United shut down Shirley’s Football Club, 2-0, in the curtain-raiser of Week 2 of the league for a 2-0-0 win-draw-loss record and the No. 1 spot in the team standings in the six-squad field. Rohan Basnet logged both goals for the early leaders with his first one posted in the 15th minute and the second in the 50th.
With Basnet’s pair of goals, MP United now has scored four and has given up only one. Rintaro Miyawaki and Richard Steele registered MP United’s first two goals.
Shirley’s has yet to score at this early stage of the season and absorbed its second setback in as many games. Shirley’s bowed to TanHoldings during the league’s opening week, 0-1.
TanHoldings, on the other hand, faltered on its bid for back-to-back victories after Kanoa FC won in the second game cin Week 2, 2-1. Jaydee Jose handed Kanoa its lone goal five minutes before the 80-minute match concluded.
Kanoa moved up to second place in the team standings with its 1-1-0 win-draw-loss record. It went through a standoff against Paire, 2-2, during its opening game last Feb. 11.
Paire played in Week 2’s last match, which Matansa won, 3-1. Justin Charles Achas helped Matansa bounce back from its 1-2 loss to MP United in their first game after logging two goals against Paire. Razeff Altamirano earned the other goal and the first for Matansa when he found his target in the third minute.
Matansa made it a 2-0 lead in the first half off Achas’ shot in the 26th minute, while a Dylan Mister goal in the 57th moved Paire within one before another conversion from Achas eight minutes later gave the winning squad the insurance.
Meanwhile, Matansa will go for victory No. 2 when it duels TanHoldings in the first game this Saturday at 1:30pm. In the second match at 3pm, MP United will put its clean record at stake against Paire, while in the third tiff at 4:30pm, Shirley’s hopes to end its losing skid when it faces Kanoa.
