MPP women’s team gets gold

Marianas Pacific Paddlers, the only women’s team from Saipan to compete in the 19th Micronesia Cup, won the gold in the 1000m event of the tournament held over the weekend at Matapang Beach in Guam.
MPP had a winning time of 6:28:4, besting strong teams from Guam and Palau. Paddling for MPP Green in the 1000m finals were Katie Graziano, Valerie Hofshneider, Diane Mallari, Bonny Cruz, Mallory Muña, and Hazel Tudela.
MPP Black topped competitors with a time of 3:08:07 to land a spot in the 500m sprint finals with Arielle Buyum, Victoria Camama, Maria Ornes, Vicky Aldan, Lei Tenorio and Shelli Neal steering and Renee Reyes as an alternate. Both MPP teams competed in the eight-mile distance race from Guam’s Boat Basin to the Hospital Point. Battling amongst 11 other female teams, both MPP squads came in with personal best record times for the distance race.
