MP United, Shirley’s FC top foes
Shirley’s Football Club and MP United notched their second win after posting contrasting wins in the women’s division of M-League last Saturday the Oleai Sports Complex Field.
MP United played in the last game of the weekend and outlasted Paire Football Club, 3-2, to improve to a 2-1-0 win-draw-loss record and gained 7 points for a shaky lead in the seven-team field.
MP United eked out the close victory after finding its rhythm in the second half. Karleen Reyes fired up MP United’s offense with her back-to-back goals, which also put her team on top after Guinevere Borja gave Paire (0-0-3) the 1-0 halftime lead. Jayda Mendoza tallied the other goal for MP United, while Brittany Hodge delivered the other goal for Paire in the second half.
Just a point behind MP United is Shirley’s FC, which bagged its second win in as many games following a 7-0 demolition of Independents FC.
Diane Pablo powered Shirley’s FC to the easy win with her hat-trick, while De Jana Muna, Gabrielle Race, Angie Ito, and Jeraldine Castillo contributed one goal each. Muna drew first blood for Shirley’s FC with her shot in the 26th minute, while Race gave the team its second goal eight minutes later.
Pablo made it 3-0 for Shirley’s in the 36th minute and knocked in her last two in consecutive fashion (51st and 63rd) before Ito and Castillo joined the spree, finding the back of the net in the 64th and 86th, respectively.
With the loss, IFC slid from fourth to fifth place in the standings with its 1-0-2 record.
Meanwhile, the first game in the women’s division ended in a draw after both Kanoa FC (0-1-1) and Tan Holdings FC (1-2-0) netted two goals.
Kanoa boosted its chances to barge into the win column after taking a 2-0 halftime lead off Marielle Gariguez’s pair of goals. However, Tan Holdings battled back and forced the standoff with Renita Fleming and Wincel Bubos tallying one goal apiece in the second half.
