MP Holdings lauds first meeting with House Gaming Committee
E-gaming operator MP Holdings LLC, which owns Saipan Vegas in Chalan Laulau, is encouraged by its first meeting with the House of Representatives’ Gaming Committee, saying it looks forward to more detailed discussions on Saipan Local Law 22-6, which doubled e-gaming taxes and has negatively impacted its business.
The House Gaming Committee, which is chaired by Rep. Ed Propst (D-Saipan) held a public hearing on the e-gaming tax increase last Friday, Sept. 17, and promised another more detailed meeting to further discuss the tax increase, in an effort to reach an amicable solution with the e-gaming operator.
In a statement yesterday, Bart Jackson, general manager of MP Holdings, said, “We were very encouraged by our first meeting with the House Gaming Committee and being allowed to have some initial discussions and answer some of the committee members’ questions on the impact of the doubling of the gaming taxes on our e-gaming venues.
“We would like to publicly acknowledge [committee chairman] Rep. Ed Propst’s positive comments in the meeting to ‘move forward through discussion and dialogue, without any anger and animosity.’
“We are hopeful that the next meeting with the House Gaming Committee will be soon and we can continue these productive discussions and we can provide more details to the committee on the impact of the increase in gaming taxes on our business, so we can reach an amicable solution and save over 70 local jobs.” (Saipan Tribune)
