Mother seeks police help after son broke items in their house
A mother sought the police’s help after her son, who she believed was under the influence of methamphetamine or “ice,” started screaming and breaking things inside their house in Dandan when she gave him only $5 instead of the $20 he was asking for on Friday at noon.
J.T. Juan Taitano, 22, was arrested for criminal mischief and disturbing the peace. His bail was set yesterday at $1,000 cash. Preliminary hearing is on June 17 at 9am.
Assistant public defender Matthew Meyer was appointed as counsel for Taitano. Assistant attorney general Barbara Cepeda appeared for the government.
Police detective Daniel T. Kintol stated in his report that two police officers responded to a house in Dandan on Friday at noon after Taitano’s mother called for police assistance because she was afraid that her son might hurt someone.
Kintol said police learned that the mother had asked Taitano earlier that day to clear the overgrown vegetation by the orchids outside their home.
Taitano was reportedly doing fine until a vehicle bearing a government license plate arrived at the house. Taitano approached the vehicle and then went to his mother to ask for $20. The mother gave him only $5.
Taitano allegedly got mad and yelled at his mother to keep the money. He then walked back to the area he was clearing and started breaking the orchids. Taitano then entered the house and threw and damaged some items.
The mother got scared because she believed her son was under the influence of “ice.” She believed the person in the vehicle had influenced her son.
The mother said Taitano’s behavior changed dramatically since he started hanging out with drug users.
The mother said there were similar incidents in the past, but she never called the police because he is her son.
