More than 100 bikers sign up for ‘Hell’

The Hell of the Marianas Century Cycle Race set for Dec. 7 has drawn more than 100 bikers, including 15 pros from all parts of the world.
According to Ricky Castro, a member of the organizing committee of the 100-kilometer race around the island, six pros have signed up in the women’s division and nine in the men’s. He added that as of yesterday, 105 have already registered for next month’s competition, and the number is expected to increase, as late registrants come in.
There are 57 CNMI bikers joining the race, 15 from Korea, 10 from Guam, five apiece from Japan and China, four each from Hong Kong and Australia, and one apiece from the Netherlands, Slovenia, El Salvador, and Spain.
Narko Pavlic of Slovenia, Lex Nederloff of the Netherlands, Edgar Nieto of Spain, Hei Nok Wong and Tsun Ho Ying of Hong Kong, Kevin Olivier Biffiger of Australia, and Yasumasa Oka, Konno Genta, and Nagatsuka Toshiki of Japan are some of the bikers entered in the men’s pro field. In the women’s pro category, Yasue Nakahara of Japan, Hiutun Tsang and Phobe Leung of Hong Kong, and Kylie Jill Adair of Australia are on the list.
The deadline for online registration is set for Dec. 4 at 5pm, while the race briefing, packet pickup, and press conference will be held on Dec. 6 at the Azucena Hall of the Fiesta Resort & Spa Saipan. Bikers can register in individual or team events (2-person and 4-person squads).
Check-in time for the race starts at 5am at the Marianas Resort. Gun time will be at 6:15am and the banquet will be held at 4:30pm at Fiesta Resort.
